What “Azamra” really means

An essential teaching of Rabbi Nachman

The word Azamra comes from Hebrew and literally means: "I will sing." It originates from the verse in Psalm 146:2 :
"Azamra leÉlohaï be'odi""I will sing to my God as long as I live."

But this word is much more than a simple poetic expression. In the tradition of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov , Azamra is the title of a fundamental teaching (Likutey Moharan I, Torah 282), at the heart of his vision of life, self-work, and the view of others.

Azamra: Seeing the good in oneself… and in others

In this lesson called "Azamra," Rabbi Nahman teaches us an essential key to progressing in our avodat Hashem (divine service):

🔥 Always look for the point of good, in yourself and in your neighbor.

Even if a man seems distant or tainted by sin, a spark of goodness remains within him. It is by focusing on this spark, valuing it, and nurturing it that he can return to God with joy.

This positive outlook transforms everything:

  • He pulls us out of spiritual despair .

  • It frees us from sterile guilt .

  • And he creates a true and loving bond with others.

This principle is central to the Breslov approach, where joy , trust , mercy , and teshuvah (return) unite to illuminate the life of the Jew, even in his lowest moments.

Singing as reparation

Rabbi Nachman compares this search for good to a melody : each positive point is a note, and when put together, they become a complete song.

"Even if a man is full of flaws, if he finds even one single point of good, he can begin to sing…"

That's it, Azamra . A vision that pushes us never to sink, to always rebuild, and to draw strength from the inner light.

AZAMRA: A brand imbued with this mission

Rabbi Nachman insisted: this teaching must accompany us every day of our lives . It is not just a matter of studying it, but of living it, repeating it, internalizing it — even (and especially) when it seems difficult.

It's a true spiritual challenge , because it requires constant and compassionate observation of oneself and others. It is precisely to never forget this , to keep this message etched in our daily lives, that we chose to name our brand AZAMRA .

Regarding 148 , it is the numerical value (gematria) of the name Nahman (נחמן), in homage to the one who transmitted this light.

Through our tsitsit T-shirts and the distribution of his books, we seek to share this vision , in our own way and in our own time.
