Tsitsit (Tzitzit): Meaning, Tips and How to Wear Them

What are Tsitsit (or Tzitzit)?

Tzitzit (or tzitzit , in English transliteration) are ritual fringes that are attached to the four corners of a garment, as prescribed in the Torah . This biblical commandment, also called the mitzvah of tzitzit , reminds the wearer of God's commandments.

Traditionally worn over a talith katan and talith gadol, the tsitsit are now also integrated into modern t-shirts , such as those offered on our site for discreet, comfortable and halakha- compliant wear.

📖 A major mitzvah in the Torah

The commandment of tsitsit is found in the Book Bamidbar (15:38-40) :

"They shall make for themselves tassels (tzitsit) on the corners of their garments [...] so that you may remember all My commandments."

These fringes serve as a daily spiritual reminder to stay connected to one's faith. The significance of tzitzit goes beyond mere tradition: it is a powerful symbol of commitment to the mitzvot .

Our sages emphasize the immense importance of this mitzvah :

  • The Gemara Nedarim teaches that one who wears tzitzit at all times is considered to be fulfilling the 613 mitzvot at every moment.

  • The Talmud, tractate Menahot 43b , states that one who observes the mitzvah of tzitzit will merit to enjoy the divine light in Gan Eden .

Thus, wearing tzitzit is not only a spiritual reminder, but a concrete act of constant connection to the divine will .

How to Wear Tsitsit Today?

There are several ways to wear tzitzit :

  • Under clothing : in tallit katan tank top

  • On clothes : over the top with the tsitsit sticking out

  • Integrated into tsitsit t-shirts , like the ones we make at Azamra

Our tzitzit t-shirts are designed for those who want to respect halakha while remaining comfortable with a single layer and can hide or not their tzitziot in the pockets provided for this purpose.

Our different tsitsit threads

At Azamra148 , we offer 100% cotton kosher tsitsit t-shirts , designed to strictly adhere to halakha while providing modern comfort. While all our designs are made of cotton, you can choose from several types of tsitsit threads , hand-knotted according to the Sephardic rite:

  • Fine white threads – Malchut
Elegant and discreet, these threads are perfect for everyday wear with finesse.

  • Thick White Threads – Teouda Badatz Beth Yossef
More visible, these sons benefit from rigorous rabbinical certification (teouda) , recognized by the Badatz Beth Yossef.

  • Techelet threads (blue and white) – Radzin
These threads incorporate ritual blue (techelet) , a tradition revived by Rabbi Gershon Henoch Leiner of Radzin , and widely adopted in the Breslov movement. For many Breslov Hasidim, wearing tzitzit with techelet is a way to deepen the connection with the mitzvot and to honor the divine light hidden within the garment.

✅ What is a teouda ?

Teouda is a rabbinic certification that guarantees that the threads used for tsitsit have been manufactured and braided according to halakhic standards . At Azamra, all our threads are certified kosher and come from suppliers recognized for their reliability and fidelity to halakhic requirements .
