Aesh Sheli: The Sacred Flame of Rabbi Nahman of Breslev

🔥 “Aesh Sheli Toukad”: The Eternal Fire of Rabbi Nahman

Among the most powerful teachings of Breslov Hasidism , one phrase from Rabbi Nachman resonates like a living promise:

“Aesh sheli toukad ad bias hamashiach”
“My fire will burn until the coming of Christ.”

These words—simple in appearance—contain a profound mystical message , which continues to inflame the hearts of truth seekers to this day.

This fire , called " Aesh Sheli ," is not a physical fire, but a spiritual fire. It symbolizes Rabbi Nahman's teaching , his worldview, his call to live with intensity, authenticity, and connection to God.

🕊️ What does “Aesh Sheli” mean?

The word " Aesh " means fire in Hebrew, and " Sheli " means mine.

Aesh Sheli ,” literally “ my fire ,” represents the living transmission of Torah , prayer, faith, and joy, as Rabbi Nahman brought it to the world.

But this fire does not stop with him.

Rabbi Nahman affirmed that his fire would continue to burn until the coming of the Messiah , that is, eternally. He wanted his teachings to be alive, transmissible, accessible —and above all, to ignite souls .

This fire is:

  • Passion for truth
  • The refusal of despair
  • Personal prayer (hitbodedut) as a direct link with God
  • Inner joy , even in the midst of trials
  • Emouna , pure, simple and complete faith

✨ The symbol of the Breslev flame

In the Breslov movement, the Aesh Sheli flame has become a visual and spiritual emblem . It is often graphically represented as a stylized fire, carried on sacred objects, posters, and even clothing—as a way of spreading this fire , of carrying it within oneself .

It reminds us at every moment of where we come from, where we are going and above all with what inner light we walk.

Carrying the Aesh Sheli flame means following in the footsteps of Rabbi Nahman, and saying:

“I too want this fire to continue burning in my life.”

👕 Tsitsit Aesh Sheli T-shirt: a fire to wear

Today, this living symbol finds concrete expression in contemporary halakhic fashion : Aesh Sheli tsitsit t-shirts .

At Azamra , we wanted to make this flame accessible through a garment that is spiritual, comfortable and compliant with halakha.

Each t-shirt thus becomes a tool for spreading fire, as Rabbi Nahman requested.
